Data List / Active List (from 12/2010)

2GR-FE ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM: SFI SYSTEM: DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST

1. DATA LIST

HINT
Using the Techstream to read the Data List allows the values or states of switches, sensors, actuators and other items to be read without removing any parts. This non-intrusive inspection can be very useful because intermittent conditions or signals may be discovered before parts or wiring is disturbed. Reading the Data List information early in troubleshooting is one way to save diagnostic time.

NOTICE:
In the table below, the values listed under "Normal Condition" are reference values. Do not depend solely on these reference values when deciding whether a part is faulty or not.

(a) Warm up the engine.

(b) Turn the ignition switch off.

(c) Connect Techstream to the DLC3.

(d) Turn the ignition switch to ON.

(e) Turn the Techstream on.

(f) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List.

(g) According to the display on the Techstream, read the Data List.

HINT
* Normal Condition: If no idling conditions are specified, the shift lever should be in the N or P position, and the A/C switch and all accessory switches should be OFF.
* *1: Excluding throttle valve opening percentage due to idle speed control.
* *2: Data List values are displayed only when performing the following Active Tests: Control the VVT Linear (Bank1), Control the VVT Linear (Bank2), Control the VVT Exhaust Linear (Bank1) and Control the VVT Exhaust Linear (Bank2). For other Active Tests, the Data List value will be 0.

2. ACTIVE TEST

HINT
Using the Techstream to perform Active Tests allows relays, VSVs, actuators and other items to be operated without removing any parts. This non-intrusive functional inspection can be very useful because intermittent operation may be discovered before parts or wiring is disturbed. Performing Active Tests early in troubleshooting is one way to save diagnostic time. Data List information can be displayed while performing Active Tests.

(a) Warm up the engine.

(b) Turn the ignition switch off.

(c) Connect Techstream to the DLC3.

(d) Turn the ignition switch to ON.

(e) Turn the Techstream on.

(f) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test.

(g) According to the display on the Techstream, perform the Active Test.

NOTICE:
*1: If the display of the Catalyst OT MF F/C item of the Data List is Not Avl, perform this Active Test with the vehicle stopped and the engine idling. If the display of the Catalyst OT MF F/C item of the Data List is Avail, perform this Active Test as described below.

(a) Stop the engine and turn the ignition switch to ON to turn Control the Cylinder #1 Fuel Cut (to Control the Cylinder #6 Fuel Cut) ON.
(b) Start the engine.

HINT
*2: While the Active Test item Check the Cylinder Compression is being performed, the fuel and ignition of all cylinders is cut. At this time, the ECM measures the speed of each cylinder while the engine is being cranked.

If one cylinder's speed is higher than the others, that cylinder's compression pressure can be concluded to be lower than the others.

1. Warm up the engine.

2. Turn the ignition switch off.

3. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

4. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

5. Turn the Techstream on.

6. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Check the Cylinder Compression.

HINT
If the results are not displayed normally, select the display items from the Data List before performing the Active Test. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / All Data / Engine Speed of Cyl #1 to #6 and Av Engine Speed of All Cyl.

7. While the engine is not running, press the RIGHT or LEFT button to change the Check the Cylinder Compression to ON.

HINT
After performing the above procedure, the Check the Cylinder Compression Active Test will start. Fuel injection for all cylinders is prohibited, and each cylinder's engine speed measurement will enter standby mode.

8. Fully open the throttle.

9. Crank the engine for about 10 seconds.

10. Monitor the engine speed (Engine Speed of Cyl #1 to #6, Av Engine Speed of All Cyl) displayed on the Techstream.

HINT
At first, the Techstream display will show each cylinder's engine speed measurement to be extremely high. After approximately 10 seconds of engine cranking, each cylinder's engine speed measurement will change to the actual engine speed.

NOTICE:
* After the Check the Cylinder Compression Active Test is turned ON, it will automatically turn OFF after 255 seconds.
* When the Check the Cylinder Compression Active Test is OFF and the engine is cranked, the engine will start.
* If the Check the Cylinder Compression Active Test needs to be performed after it is turned ON and performed once, press EXIT to return to the Active Test menu screen. Then perform the Check the Cylinder Compression Active Test again.
* Use a fully-charged battery.

3. SYSTEM CHECK (Only for Techstream)

HINT
Performing a System Check in the Utility menu enables the system, which consists of the multiple actuators, to be operated without removing any parts. In addition, it can show whether or not any DTCs are stored, and can detect potential malfunctions in the system.

(a) Connect Techstream to the DLC3.

(b) Start the engine.

(c) Turn the Techstream on.

(d) Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Engine / Utility.

(e) Perform the System Check by referring to the table below.
