DESCRIPTION

The skid control ECU (housed in the ABS & TRACTION actuator assembly) inputs the stop light switch signal and the condition of brake operation.

The skid control ECU has an open detection circuit, which outputs this DTC when detecting an open in the stop light input line while the stop light switch is OFF.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

NOTICE:
When replacing the ABS & TRACTION actuator assembly, perform zero point calibration Calibration (to 12/2010).

PROCEDURE

1. INSPECT STOP FUSE

(a) Remove the STOP No. 1 and STOP No. 2 fuses from the engine room relay block.





(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard resistance:





NG -- REPLACE STOP FUSE
OK -- Continue to next step.

2. CHECK STOP LIGHT SWITCH OPERATION

(a) Install the STOP No. 1 and STOP No. 2 fuses.

(b) Check that the stop light comes on when the brake pedal is depressed, and goes off when the brake pedal is released.

OK:





NG -- INSPECT STOP LIGHT SWITCH (POWER SOURCE TERMINAL)
OK -- Continue to next step.

3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (STOP LIGHT SWITCH)

(a) Turn the ignition switch off.

(b) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(c) Turn the ignition switch on (IG).

(d) Select the Data List on the Techstream Data List / Active Test.

ABS/VSC/TRAC:





(e) Check the stop light switch display observed on the Techstream changes according to brake pedal operation.

OK:

The Techstream displays ON or OFF according to brake pedal operation.

NG -- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (STOP LIGHT SWITCH TO SKID CONTROL ECU)
OK -- Continue to next step.

4. RECONFIRM DTC

(a) Turn the ignition switch off.

(b) Clear the DTCs DTC Check / Clear (to 12/2010).

(c) Start the engine.

(d) Depress the brake pedal several times to test the stop light circuit.

(e) Check if the same DTC is detected DTC Check / Clear (to 12/2010).

If troubleshooting has been carried out according to the Problem Symptoms Table, refer back to the table and proceed to the next step Problem Symptoms Table (to 12/2010).

A -- CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS Check For Intermittent Problems

5. INSPECT STOP LIGHT SWITCH (POWER SOURCE TERMINAL)

(a) Make sure that there is no looseness at the locking part and the connecting part of the connectors.

(b) Disconnect the stop light switch connector.





(c) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard voltage:





NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (POWER SOURCE CIRCUIT)
OK -- Continue to next step.

6. INSPECT STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY

(a) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.





Standard resistance:





NG -- REPLACE STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY
OK -- Continue to next step.

7. INSPECT SKID CONTROL ECU (STP1 TERMINAL)

(a) Install the stop light switch connector.

(b) Turn the ignition switch ON (IG).

(c) Disconnect the skid control ECU connector.

(d) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.





Standard voltage:





NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (STP1 TERMINAL)
OK -- Continue to next step.

8. INSPECT SKID CONTROL ECU (GND TERMINAL)

(a) Turn the ignition switch off.





(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard resistance:





NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (GND TERMINAL)
OK -- Continue to next step.

9. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (STOP LIGHT SWITCH TO SKID CONTROL ECU)

(a) Turn the ignition switch off.

(b) Make sure that there is no looseness at the locking part and the connecting part of the connectors.





(c) Disconnect the stop light switch connector and skid control ECU connector.

(d) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard resistance:





NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.

10. RECONFIRM DTC

(a) Clear the DTC DTC Check / Clear (to 12/2010).

(b) Start the engine.

(c) Depress the brake pedal several times to test the stop light circuit.

(d) Check if same DTC is detected DTC Check / Clear (to 12/2010).
