Removal









1ZZ-FE ENGINE MECHANICAL: CAMSHAFT:

COMPONENTS













REMOVAL

1. DISCONNECT BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL
2. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER RH
3. REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD COVER NO.2
(a) Remove the cylinder head cover No. 2 (Removal).
4. REMOVE IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the ignition coil assembly (Removal).
5. REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the cylinder head cover sub-assembly (Removal).
6. SET NO. 1 CYLINDER TO TDC / COMPRESSION
(a) Set the No. 1 cylinder to the TDC/compression (Removal).
7. REMOVE NO.2 CAMSHAFT





(a) Place matchmarks on the timing chain and camshaft timing gears as illustrated.





(b) Remove the 2 nuts, then remove the chain tensioner.

NOTE: Do not turn the crankshaft without the chain tensioner.





(c) While holding the camshaft with a wrench, loosen the camshaft timing gear set bolt.

NOTE: Be careful not to damage the valve lifter.





(d) Using several steps, uniformly loosen and remove the 11 bolts in the sequence shown, then remove the 5 bearing caps.





(e) Remove the camshaft timing gear as shown in the illustration.
8. REMOVE CAMSHAFT





(a) Using several steps, uniformly loosen and remove the 8 bolts in the sequence shown, then remove the 4 bearing caps.





(b) Remove the camshaft and camshaft timing gear while holding the timing chain by hand.





(c) Tie the timing chain with a string as shown in the illustration.

NOTE: Be careful not to drop anything inside the timing chain cover.
