REMOVAL
1. PRECAUTION
CAUTION: Be sure to read "PRECAUTION, refer to Restraint Systems Service Precautions" thoroughly before servicing.
2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
CAUTION: Wait for 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable to prevent the airbag working.
3. REMOVE STEERING PAD
NOTE: If the airbag connector is disconnected with the ignition switch at ON or ACC, DTCs will be recorded.
a. Place the front wheels facing straight ahead.
b. Using a "TORX" socket wrench (T30), loosen the 2 "TORX" screw until the groove along the screw circumference catches on the screw case.
c. Pull out the steering pad from the steering wheel assembly.
d. Disconnect the airbag connectors and horn connector, and remove the steering pad.
INSTALLATION
1. INSTALL STEERING PAD
a. Connect the airbag connectors and horn connector.
b. Install the steering pad after confirming that the circumference groove of the "TORX" screw is caught on the screw.
c. Using a "TORX" socket wrench (T30), install the 2 screw.
Torque: 8.8 N.m (90 kgf.cm, 78 in.lbf)
2. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
3. INSPECT STEERING PAD
a. With the steering pad installed on the vehicle, perform a visual check. If there are any defects as mentioned below, replace the steering pad with a new one: Cuts, minute cracks or marked discoloration on the steering pad top surface or in the grooved portion.
b. Make sure that the horn sounds.
HINT: If the horn does not sound, inspect the horn system.
4. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
a. Perform initialization.
HINT: Some systems need initialization when disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal.
5. INSPECT SRS WARNING LIGHT
a. Inspect the SRS warning light.
