Transmission Control System
DTC P0850 Park/Neutral Switch Input CircuitCIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
DTC Detection Condition:
The park/neutral position switch detects the shift lever position and sends signals to the ECM. The ECM receives signals (NSW, R, 2 and L) from the park/neutral position switch. When the signal is not sent to the ECM from the park/neutral position switch, the ECM judges that the shift lever is in the D position.
MONITOR DESCRIPTION
Monitor Strategy:
Typical Enabling Conditions:
Typical Malfunction Thresholds:
The Park/Neutral position switch detects the gear shift position and sends the shift position signal to the ECM. For safety, the engine can be started only when the vehicle is in P or N gear position. When the park/neutral position switch sends more than one signal at a time from switch positions P, R, N, D, 2 or L, the ECM interprets this as a fault in the switch. The ECM will turn on the MIL and store the DTC. And the ECM will conclude that there is a malfunction if it detects that the Park/Neutral position switch sent either P or N position signal to the ECM while driving. The ECM will illuminate the MIL and set a DTC.
