Transmission Control System
DTC P0500 Vehicle Speed Sensor "A"CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
DTC Detecting Condition:
The speed sensor for the ABS detects the wheel speed and sends the appropriate signals to the ABS ECU. The ECU converts these signals into a 4-pulse signal and outputs it to the combination meter. After this signal is converted into a more precise rectangular waveform by the waveform shaping circuit inside the combination meter, it is then transmitted to the ECM. The ECM determines the vehicle speed based on the frequency of these pulse signals.
MONITOR DESCRIPTION
Monitor Strategy:
Typical Enabling Conditions:
Typical Malfunction Thresholds:
The Engine Control Module (ECM) detects vehicle speed as pulse signal using a vehicle speed sensor. A vehicle speed sensor built into each wheel detects vehicle speed signal (pulse signals). These signals are sent to the ECM via the ABS ECU and the combination meter.
If the ECM does not detect any vehicle speed signals while vehicle is being driven, the ECM interprets it as a malfunction in the vehicle speed sensor circuit and set a DTC.
