Introduction

An alternative method for clearing Diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) on 1997 U.S. produced Camrys and Avalons has been adopted for the Bosch ABS system.

Affected Vehicles

^ 1997 U.S produced Camry and Avalon.

Repair Manual Method

Turn ignition switch on and depress the brake pedal 8 or more times within 3 seconds.

Alternative Method

Turn ignition switch, on and off, 20 times.

NOTE:
If the ABS system sets an intermittent code and the problem is not present for 20 ignition cycles, the customer could inadvertently clear the trouble codes by turning the ignition switch on and off 20 times prior to coming to the dealership.
