Rear Axle / Hub:
REMOVAL
1. Remove rear wheel.
Torque: 103 Nm (76 ft. lbs.).
2. Remove rear brake caliper and disc, as follows:
a. Remove the two bolts and brake caliper from the rear axle hub.
Torque: 104 Nm (77 ft. lbs.).
b. Support the brake caliper securely.
c. Place matchmarks on the disc and axle hub.
d. Remove the disc.
3. Check bearing backlash and axle hub deviation, as follows:
a. Using a dial indicator near the center of the axle hub and check the backlash in the bearing shaft direction.
Maximum backlash: 0.05 mm (0.0020 inch).
If the backlash exceeds the maximum, replace the bearing.
b. Using a dial indicator, check the deviation at the surface of the axle hub outside the hub bolt.
Maximum deviation: 0.05 mm (0.0020 inch).
If the deviation exceeds the maximum, replace the axle hub.
4. Remove drive shaft lock nut, as follows:
a. Install the disc and brake caliper.
b. Remove the cotter pin and lock cap.
c. While depressing the brake pedal, remove the nut.
Torque: 289 Nm (213 ft. lbs.).
d. Remove the brake caliper and disc.
5. Remove drive shaft.
6. Remove parking brake shoe.
7. Disconnect Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) speed sensor. Remove the bolt and disconnect the ABS speed sensor.
Torque: 7.8 Nm (69 in.lbs.).
8. Disconnect parking brake cable, as follows:
a. Remove the two parking brake cable set bolts.
Torque: 8.0 Nm (69 inch lbs.).
b. Remove the two backing plate set bolts.
Torque: 26 Nm (19 ft. lbs.).
c. Remove the bolt and shoe guide plate.
Torque: 18 Nm (13 ft. lbs.).
d. Using a 14 mm hexagon wrench, remove the hexagon bolt.
Torque: 180 Nm (132 ft. lbs.).
e. Slide the backing plate to the outside and disconnect the parking brake cable.
9. Remove strut rod. Remove the two bolts and nuts.
INSTALLATION NOTE: After stabilizing the suspension, torque the nut.
Torque: 184 Nm (136 ft. lbs.).
10. Disconnect lower suspension No. 1, as follows:
