Clutch Replacement

NOTE: On models with coded audio anti-theft systems, refer to Technician Safety Information for code procedures. On models with air bag system, disarm airbag system as outlined under Technician Safety Information.

1. Remove transmission/transaxle assembly.
2. Place installation alignment on clutch cover and flywheel.
3. Loosen each set bolt one turn at a time until spring tension is released.
4. Remove clutch cover attaching bolts, then remove cover and disc.
5. Remove release bearing, fork and boot.
6. Using suitable calipers, measure clutch disc rivet head depth. Minimum rivet depth should be .012 inch. If not as indicated, replace clutch disc.
7. Using suitable dial indicator, measure flywheel runout. Maximum runout should be .008 inch. If not as indicated, replace flywheel.
8. Measure clutch disc runout, maximum runout is .031 inch. If not as indicated, replace disc.
9. Using suitable calipers, measure diaphragm spring depth and width. Depth should be 0.024 inch and width should be 0.197 inch. If not as indicated, replace clutch cover.
10. Reverse to install, noting the following:
a. Using tool No. 09301-17010 or 093201-20020 or equivalent, install clutch disc.
b. Match clutch cover and flywheel alignment marks, then tighten cover bolts to specifications, one turn at a time in a criss cross pattern, ensuring clutch disc and pressure plate remain aligned.
c. Using suitable dial indicator, check diaphragm spring tip alignment, .020 inch is maximum allowable out of alignment.
11. On models with air bag system, rearm airbag system as outlined under Technician Safety Information. If audio system was disabled, activate as outlined under Technician Safety Information.
