Water Pump: Service and Repair

1. Obtain audio coded anti-theft code, if equipped, disarm air bag system as outlined under Technician Safety Information.
2. Remove battery and battery tray, then the engine undercover.
3. Remove No. 1 and No. 2 air tubes, then drain coolant.
4. Remove air cleaner and MAF meter assembly, then the No. 5 air hose.
5. Remove lefthand headlight beam angle gauge.
6. Remove No. 2 fan shroud, than the radiator assembly.
7. On models with automatic transmissions, remove two cooler hoses and plug hose ends.
8. Remove drive belt tensioner damper.
9. Remove drive belt, fan, fluid coupling assembly and water pump pulley.
10. Remove water inlet, lower radiator hose assembly and thermostat.
11. Remove timing belt as outlined under Timing Belt.
12. Remove alternator, then disconnect turbo water hoses from water outlet and remove water outlet and No.1 water bypass valve.
13. Disconnect No. 3 turbo water hose from water pump.
14. Remove six water pump attaching bolts, then the water pump.
15. Reverse procedure to install. Reset audio coded anti-theft system, if equipped, as outlined under Technician Safety Information.
