Clutch Replacement
NOTE: On models with coded audio anti-theft systems, refer to Technician Safety Information for code procedures.1. On models with air bag system, disarm airbag system as outlined under Technician Safety Information.
2. Remove transaxle and engine assembly.
3. Place installation alignment marks on clutch cover and flywheel.
4. Loosen each set bolt one turn at a time until spring tension is released.
5. Remove clutch cover attaching bolts, then remove cover and disc.
6. Remove release bearing, fork and boot.
7. Using suitable calipers, measure clutch disc rivet head depth. Minimum rivet depth should be .012 inch. If not as indicated, replace clutch disc.
8. Using suitable dial indicator, measure flywheel runout. Maximum runout should be .004 inch. If not as indicated, replace flywheel.
9. Measure clutch disc runout, maximum runout is .031 inch. If not as indicated, replace disc.
10. Reverse to install, noting the following:
a. Using suitable tool, install clutch disc.
b. Match clutch cover and flywheel alignment marks, then torque cover bolts to 14 ft. lb.. one turn at a time in a criss-cross pattern, ensuring clutch disc and pressure plate remain aligned.
c. Reset audio anti-theft system, if equipped, as outlined under Technician Safety Information, then road test vehicle. On models with air bag system, rearm airbag system as outlined under Technician Safety Information.
