Introduction
To reduce internal engine noise when idling at normal operating temperature, the following changes have been made:
^ No. 1 and No. 4 main bearing oil clearances have been reduced by installation of thicker bearings having marks that are 2 higher in number than the original bearings installed on vehicles prior to production change.

Field Repair Procedures
Replace both No. 1 and No. 4 main bearings with those having marks 2 higher than number on back of original bearings (illustration).
NOTE:
See Repair Manual for details regarding disassembly & reassembly. If original bearing numbers are not clear, adjust clearances within 0.025 mm - 0.030 mm (0.0010 - 0.0012 in.) using plastigage.
