Seats - Side to Side Movement

'95 '98 Avalon

Introduction
Some customers may feel a slight side-to-side movement in front seats during cornering. A field fix has been developed to improve seat side-to-side feeling on Avalon vehicles equipped with power bucket seats.

Applicable Vehicles
1995 - 1998 Avalon with power seats.

Warranty information

Applicable Warranty *:

This repair is covered under the Toyota Basic Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.

Repair Procedure
1. Using a screwdriver, remove the seat track covers. (Tape the screw driver tip before use to protect seat track covers.)
2. Remove the four mounting screws.
3. Disconnect the harness connector.
4. Tilt back the seat assembly to acess the tracks.






5. Locate the torsion bar and torsion bar support, as shown in the illustration.
6. Remove the C-clip on the end of the torsion bar.
7. Slide the torsion bar out of the support and install the spacer (P/N 72477-07010) as shown.
8. Reinstall the torsion bar into the support and install the C-clip.
9. Reconnect the harness to the seat, reinstall the seat to the floor and tighten the tour mounting screws 37 Nm (375 kgf-cm, 27 ft lbs). Reinstall the seat track covers. Confirm the repair has changed the seat movement condition.
