Wastegate Solenoid: Description and Operation

PURPOSE
The waste gate control Vacuum Switching Valve (VSV) controls maximum boost pressure.

OPERATION



The VSV receives power from the EFI Main relay. When boost pressure exceeds a preset value the ECM completes the circuit to ground, turning on the VSV. Vacuum flows through the valve to the waste gate actuator. When the waste gate is open, exhaust is able to by-pass the turbine wheel, causing it to slow down thus decreasing boost pressure.
