EGR Control Solenoid: Description and Operation
PURPOSEThe Vacuum Switching Valve (VSV) for EGR controls when vacuum is allowed to the EGR valve. The engine control module (ECM) uses the VSV to prevent EGR operation when the engine is cold, for improved driveability.
OPERATION
The solenoid receives voltage from the "EFI Main" relay whenever the ignition switch is turned ON. When EGR operation is required, the ECM grounds the remaining terminal which opens the solenoid vacuum passage allowing vacuum to the EGR.
