Exhaust Control Valve: Description and Operation
PURPOSEThe exhaust gas control valve controls operation of the No. 2 turbocharger.
OPERATION
The VSV receives a constant voltage whenever the engine is running. As boost pressure increases the ECM completes the circuit which allows the actuator to open the exhaust gas control valve, causing turbo No. 2 to start spinning. This lets the turbo come up to operating speed. However, no boost is supplied from the unit until the intake air control valve opens as well.
