Exhaust Bypass Valve: Description and Operation
PURPOSEThe exhaust bypass valve controls No. 2 turbocharger operation.
OPERATION
Schematic View Of Turbocharger System Connections:
The valve receives power whenever the engine is running. When boost pressure reaches a certain point the ECM completes the circuit to the vacuum switching valve (VSV). Vacuum through the VSV controls an actuator which opens and closes an exhaust bypass passage between turbochargers. The operation of this passage provides a smooth transition between single and dual turbocharger operation.
