Inspection Procedure

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

1. CHECK OUTPUT CONDITION OF DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE 51.

DLC2 Terminal ID:

(a) Connect terminals "TE2" and "E1" of the data link connector (DLC2).
(b) Turn ignition switch ON.
(c) Crank the engine.



(d) Connect terminals "TE1" and "E1" of DLC2.

Park / Neutral Position Switch Code Output:

(e) Check if diagnostic trouble code (DTC 51) is output when the shift lever is in the "P" and "D" shift positions.
^ If OK proceed to DIAGNOSIS BY SYMPTOM.
Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
^ If not OK type I proceed to step 2.
^ If not OK type I proceed to step 3.

2. CHECK FOR OPEN IN HARNESS AND CONNECTOR BETWEEN ENGINE CONTROL MODULE AND PARK / NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH.
^ If OK check and replace ECM.
^ If not OK repair or replace harness or connector.

3. CHECK PARK / NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH.
^ If OK check and replace ECM.
^ If not OK replace park / neutral position switch.
