Oil Pump Service/Inspection
1. Remove Oil Pan as outlined under Oil Pan.2. Remove oil pump relief valve, then the pump body cover, the drive and driven gears.
3. Coat relief valve with engine oil and ensure it falls smoothly into valve hole under its own weight. If not, replace relief valve.
4. Inspect drive and driven rotors by placing in oil pump body. The marks on the rotors must face up.
5. Using a feeler gauge, measure clearance between driven rotor and pump housing. Standard tip clearance is 0.0039-0.0069 inch maximum being 0.0079 inch. If the body clearance is greater than maximum, replace rotors as a set. If necessary, replace oil pump assembly.
