Removing The Catalytic Converter:

If exhaust system back-pressure and/or exhaust emission levels are excessive, remove the catalytic converter from the car, Fig. 66, and make a visual check for plugged, melted or cracked ceramic grid inside. If any of the visible areas are damaged, replace the catalytic converter.
