SYSTEM TEST

1. Start the engine and maintain idle speed.
2. Disconnect the AS hose from the air cleaner inlet pipe.
3. Listen for a "gurgling" sound coming from the AS inlet hose. Fig. 61
4. If NO sound is heard, check the reed valve, the hoses and pipes for cracks, damage, restrictions or loose connections.
5. Reconnect AS hose to air cleaner inlet pipe.

REED VALVE

1. Remove the AS reed valve from the vehicle.
2. Working from the catalytic converter side of the valve, check that air passes when sucking on the valve pipe and does NOT pass when blowing on the pipe. Fig. 63
3. If not as specified, replace the reed valve.
4. Reinstall the reed valve on the vehicle.
