Timing Belt Installation





TIMING BELT INSTALLATION

1. Install oil pump pulley.





(a) Align the pulley and oil pump drive shaft.





(b) Using SST 09616-12011 to hold the pulley torque the nut.

Torque: 36 N.m (370 kgf.cm, 27 ft.lbf)

2. Install camshaft timing pulley.





(a) Align the camshaft knock pin with the No.1 camshaft bearing cap mark.





(b) Align the knock pin hole on the 3E mark side with the camshaft knock pin hole and install the camshaft pulley to the camshaft.





(c) Hold the camshaft with a wrench and torque the pulley set bolt.

Torque: 50 N.m (510 kgf.cm, 37 ft.lbf)

HINT: Remove any oil or water on the camshaft timing pulley and keep it clean.





3. Install crankshaft timing pulley.
Install the crankshaft timing pulley and align the TDC marks on the oil pump body and crankshaft timing pulley.

HINT: Remove any oil or water on the crankshaft timing pulley and keep it clean.





4. Install No.1 idler pulley.
(a) Install the No.1 idler pulley.
(b) Pry the No.1 idler pulley toward the left as far as it will go and temporarily tighten it.

HINT: Remove any oil or water or the idler pulley and keep it clean.

5. Install No.2 idler pulley.

Torque: 27 N.m (280 kgf.cm. 20 ft-lbf)

HINT: Remove any oil or water on the camshaft timing pulley and keep it clean.

6. Install timing belt.





HINT: If reusing timing belt, align the points marked during removal and install the belt with the arrow pointing in the direction of engine revolution.

7. Inspect valve timing and belt tension.





(a) Install the tension spring.





(b) Loosen the No.1 idler pulley set bolt.





(c) Temporarily install the crankshaft pulley bolt and turn the crankshaft 2 revolutions from TDC to TDC.

HINT: Always turn crankshaft clockwise.





(d) Check that each pulley aligns with the marks as shown.





(e) Torque the No.1 idler pulley bolt.

Torque: 18 N.m (185 kgf-cm 13 ft-lbf)





(f) Check that there is belt tension at the position indicated in the illustration.
(g) Remove the crankshaft pulley bolt.





8. Install timing belt guide.





9. Install timing belt covers.
Install the No.1 and No.2 timing belt covers with the 7 bolts.

Torque: 7.5 N.m (75 kgf.cm. 65 in.-lbf)

10. Install crankshaft pulleys.
(a) Align he pulley set key with the key groove of the pulley.
(b) Install the pulley bolt and SST 09213-14010 to the crankshaft pulley.





(c) Using SST 09330-00021 to hold the crankshaft pulley, torque the pulley bolt.

Torque: 152 N-m (1,550 kgf-cm, 112 ft-lbf)





(d) If equipped with A/C and/or P/S, Install the No.2 crankshaft pulley with the 4 bolts.

Torque: 19 N.m (195 kgf.cm 14 ft-lbf)

11. Install spark plugs.

Torque: 18 N.m (180 kgf-cm 13 ft-lbf)

12. Install cylinder head cover.
(a) Install the gasket to the cylinder head cover.





(b) Apply seal packing to the cylinder head as shown in the illustration.

Seal packing: Parts No.08826-00080 or equivalent

HINT: Install the head cover as soon as seal packing is applied.





(c) Install the cylinder head cover with the 2 seal washers and nuts.

Torque: 69 N.m (70 kgf-cm, 61 in.-lbf)

13. Install RH engine mounting insulator.





(a) Install the RH engine mounting insulator to the engine with 2 bolts.

Torque: 64 N-m (650 kgf-cm, 47 ft-lbf)

(b) Align the RH mounting insulator with the bracket and temporarily install the mounting through bolt.
(c) Lower the engine and remove the jack.
(d) Using a 14 mm deep socket wrench, install the nut.





(e) Torque the through bolt.

Torque: 73 N-m (740 kgf-cm, 54 ft-lbf)





14. Install vacuum switching valves with bracket and ground strap.
15. Install alternator drive belt.
16. If equipped with A/C and/or P/S, install A/C and/or P/S drive belt.
17. Adjust drive belts.
18. If equipped with A/C and/or P/S, install pipe clamp bolts.
19. Install PCV hoses.
20. A/T: Connect throttle cable, and adjust it.
21. Connect accelerator cable, and adjust it.
22. Install RH engine under cover.
23. Connect negative terminal cable to battery.
