Starter Motor: Service and Repair

1. On models equipped with airbags, disarm airbag system as outlined under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
2. On all models, disconnect battery ground cable. Remove battery, battery tray and/or igniter bracket, if necessary.
3. On Camry models equipped with cruise control, remove cruise control actuator.
4. On all models, disconnect electrical connectors from starter motor.
5. Remove air cleaner assembly, if necessary.
6. On models with automatic transmission, remove transmission oil filler tube if necessary.
7. On all models, remove starter motor attaching bolts, heat shield (if equipped), then the starter motor.
8. Reverse procedure to install.
