Evaporative Emission Control Canister: Testing and Inspection

1. Remove charcoal canister.
2. Remove dust cover from canister.
3. Visually inspect housing for cracks or damage.
4. Using low pressure compressed air, blow into inlet pipe from fuel tank and check that air flows through other pipes without resistance. Fig. 7b
5. Check the canister check valve by blowing air into the purge pipe inlet. Air should NOT flow through other pipes.
6. If a problem is found, replace charcoal canister.
7. If canister cleaning is required, refer to Charcoal Canister Cleaning under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES.
8. Reinstall dust cover to charcoal canister.
9. Reinstall canister on vehicle.
