Condenser Fan: Description and Operation

PURPOSE

The condenser fan is designed to force ambient air through the condenser fins. The cooling of the condenser turns hot refrigerant gas to cooled liquid.

OPERATION

The fan can operate at both a high and low speed depending on the water temperature and A/C switch position.

If the water temp. is 181 deg. F (83 deg. C) or below and the A/C compressor is OFF, the fan will be OFF. If the water temp. is 194 deg. F (90 deg. C) or above, the condenser fan will be ON high speed whether the A/C compressor is ON or OFF.

If the water temp. is 181 deg. F (83 deg. C) or below and the A/C compressor is ON, the fan will be ON low speed. If the water temp. is 194 deg. F (90 deg. C) or above or the refrigerant pressure is greater than 220 psi (1520 kPa) the condenser fan will be ON high speed.
