Engine: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove engine hood and undercover (if equipped).
2. Remove air cleaner hose and air cleaner assembly.
3. Drain engine and transmission oil, then disconnect two oil cooler hoses.
4. Drain coolant from radiator, then remove two heater hoses.
5. Disconnect coolant reservoir hose, then remove coolant reservoir.
6. Remove radiator attaching bolts, then the radiator and cooling fan as an assembly.
7. Disconnect throttle cables from carburetor, then all necessary electrical connectors.
8. Disconnect brake booster, power steering, A/C and EBCV vacuum hoses.
9. On models equipped with cruise control, remove cruise control actuator.
10. On all models, disconnect heater water hoses.
11. Disconnect fuel hoses from fuel pump.
12. On models equipped with power steering, remove power steering pump and bracket and position aside. Do not disconnect power steering pump hoses.
13. On models equipped with A/C, remove A/C compressor and bracket and position aside. Do not disconnect refrigerant lines.
14. On all models, disconnect speedometer cable from transaxle.
15. On models with manual transmissions, remove clutch release cylinder from transaxle and position aside. Do not disconnect fluid line from release cylinder.
16. On all models, disconnect transmission shifter control cables.
17. Raise and support vehicle.
18. On 4WD models, disconnect oil cooler lines.
19. On all models, disconnect exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold.
20. Disconnect driveshafts from transaxle.
21. On 4WD models, disconnect propeller shaft.
22. On all models, disconnect front, center and rear mounting from center member.
23. Remove engine mounting member, then lower vehicle and install suitable engine lifting equipment.
24. Remove three mounting stay bolts, then then righthand mounting.
25. Remove two mounting stay bolts, then remove lefthand mounting.
26. Remove engine and transaxle assembly. Ensure care is taken as not to damage the power steering pump or throttle position sensor during removal.
27. Place engine in suitable work stand, then disconnect back-up lamp and neutral safety switch electrical connectors.
28. Remove rear end plate.
29. On models equipped with automatic transmission, remove six torque convertor mounting bolts.
30. On all models, remove starter, then then transaxle from the engine.
31. Reverse procedure to install. Tighten attaching nuts and bolts to specifications.
