Intake Manifold: Service and Repair

4A-F

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove air cleaner and hose, then fuel line to carburetor.
3. Disconnect all electrical connectors, hoses, cables, fuel lines and electrical equipment that will interfere with removal of intake manifold.
4. Remove manifold stay.
5. Remove intake manifold attaching bolts, wire clamp, then intake manifold and gasket.
6. If necessary, remove carburetor.
7. Reverse procedure to install. Torque to specifications.

4A-FE

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove air cleaner assembly.
3. Disconnect all electrical connectors, hoses, cables, fuel lines and electrical equipment that will interfere with removal of and intake manifold. Ensure the following are removed:
a. Ground strap.
b. ISC valve connector.
c. Cold start injector connector.
d. Throttle position sensor connector.
e. If equipped. EGR VSV and gas temperature sensor connectors.
f. Vacuum sensor connector.
g. Disconnect wire clamp from vacuum pipe and remove engine wire from manifold.
h. Vacuum sensor hose from gas filter.
i. Fuel return hose from air pipe.
4. Remove manifold stay, then water bypass hose from air pipe.
5. Remove intake retaining bolts, ground strap, intake manifold and gasket.
6. Reverse procedure to install. Torque to specifications.

4A-GE

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove air cleaner assembly.
3. Remove cold start injector pipe.
4. Disconnect all electrical connectors, hoses, cables, fuel lines and electrical equipment that will interfere with removal of and intake manifold.
5. Remove delivery pipe and injectors.
6. Remove manifold stay, then disconnect vacuum hose from intake air control valve.
7. Remove VSV with vacuum tank.
8. Remove intake retaining bolts and nuts, then remove manifold and air control valve and gaskets.
9. Reverse procedure to install. Torque to specifications.
