Installation




INSTALLATION OF REAR BRAKES

NOTE: Assemble the parts in the correct direction as shown.




Apply high temperature grease to the brake shoe contact surfaces as shown.



Apply high temperature grease to the adjuster 10 threads and ends.



Set the adjuster and return spring in place and install the adjusting lever spring.



Using pliers, connect the parking brake cable to the lever.
Pass the parking brake cable through the notch in the anchor plate.
Set the rear shoe in place with the end of the shoe inserted in the wheel cylinder and the other end in the' anchor plate.



Using SST #09718-00010, install the shoe hold-down spring, cups and pin.

CAUTION: Do not allow oil or grease to get on the friction surface.



Install the anchor spring between the front and rear shoes.
Set the front shoe in place with the end of the shoe inserted in the wheel cylinder and the adjuster in place.



Using SST #09718-00010 install the shoe hold-down spring, cups and pin.

CAUTION: Do not allow oil or grease to get on the friction surface.




Using SST #09703-30010 connect the return spring.



Check operation of automatic adjusting mechanism. Move the parking brake lever of the rear shoe back and forth, as shown. Check that the adjuster turns. If the adjuster does not turn, check for incorrect installation of the rear brakes.
Set the adjuster length to the shortest possible amount.



Align the adjusting hole on the brake drum and largest hole on the axle carrier, install the brake drum.



Pull the parking brake lever all the way up until clicking sound can no longer be heard.



Remove the brake drum.
Measure the brake drum inside diameter and diameter of the brake shoes. Check that the difference between the diameters is the correct shoe clearance.

Shoe clearance: 0.6 mm (0.024 in.)

If incorrect, check the parking brake system.
Install brake drum
Install rear wheel
Fill brake reservoir with brake fluid and bleed brake system
Check for fluid leakage
