1. Working inside vehicle, remove shock absorber cover and package tray bracket (if equipped).
2. Disconnect brake hose from wheel cylinder or caliper, then disconnect brake hose from shock absorber.
3. Working inside vehicle, loosen nut securing suspension support to shock absorber, Figs. 9 and 10. Do not remove nut at this time.
4. Support axle carrier with suitable jack, then remove bolts securing shock absorber to axle carrier, then disconnect shock absorber from carrier.
5. Working inside vehicle, remove nuts securing suspension support to vehicle body, then remove shock absorber.
6. Install a bolt and two nuts in shock absorber lower mounting bracket and clamp unit in a suitable vise using lower mounting bracket as clamping surface.
7. Using a suitable spring compressor, compress coil spring.
8. Remove nut securing suspension support to shock absorber, then remove suspension support, coil spring, insulator and spring bumper. Shock absorber is filled with colorless, odorless and non-poisonous high pressure gas. Upon removal, handle shock absorber with care. Do not score or scratch exposed part of piston rod or allow paint or oil to come in contact with it. Do not rotate piston rod and cylinder assembly with shock absorber fully extended. When discarding shock absorber, drill a small hole in bottom of cylinder to relieve pressure.
9. Reverse procedure to install. Torque to specifications.
