TO: ALL TOYOTA DEALERS/SERVICE MANAGERS
SUBJECT: 1985-1989 CRESSIDA AND 1987-1989 CAMRY PASSIVE SEAT BELTS
Since late 1981, the Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI) at the University of Michigan has undertaken a special program to obtain the "real world" collision data of Toyota automatic front (passive) seat belt system for research and development purposes.
We are advised that this program will be continued for 1985-1989 Cressida and 1987-1989 Camry. Thus, we are again soliciting your dealership personnel's continued cooperation to provide information of those accidents involving the subject vehicles with serious injuries and vehicles with major damages only.
The program will be continued as in the past, which is reiterated below for your information:
1. All Toyota dealership personnel are eligible. A $30.00 award will be given to any individual who is first in reporting an accident, providing the information is in accordance with the attached "Accident Notification Form".
Subsequent reports (maximum four) of the same accident which are reported within 14 days from the date of the accident will be awarded $10.00 each.
2. Acceptable reports must be based on the following criteria:
a) Vehicle involved must be:
^ 1985 to 1989 Cressida model or 1987 to 1989 Camry models
^ Damages must be estimated at more than $3,000.00
^ Side impact or Rear Impact collision accidents are not applicable and are not included in this research program.
b) Accidents must be reported within five days from the date of occurrence.
c) The information must be provided by telephone. (See attached)
3. All notification reports must be telephoned to:
Michael E. Klima - Technical Analysis Engineer
Tel: (213) 618-4811 or 4775
4. The award will be made directly to the person who submits the acceptable notification report.
Toyota urges all dealership personnel to assist in reporting these accidents so that we may continue our research and development program.
