Engine Mount - Knocking Noise

TITLE: CAMRY - ENGINE CENTER MEMBER INTERFERENCE

CONDITION:
A change to the Engine Center Member has been made to eliminate a knocking noise, caused by contact of the Lower Arm Brace and this member. The knocking noise can occur during cold engine startup and/or acceleration. The repair procedure involves fastening the lower arm brace to the engine center member.



REPAIR PROCEDURES:

I. Vehicles with production dates from Aug. '88 to Jul. '89 and Feb. '90 to Mar. '90 have two (2) rubber spacers attached to the lower arm brace. In addition, weld nuts are included in the engine center member. Remove the rubber spacers on the lower arm brace and install two (2) bolts (PN 90119-10567) into the engine center member.

II. Vehicles with production dates from Aug. '89 to Jan. '90

have two (2) rubber spacers attached to the lower arm brace. The engine center member does not have weld nuts attached to it. In this case, replacement of the engine center member with the new part, (PN 51204-32024) is required, along with removal of both rubber spacers and installation of the two
(2) bolts (PN 90119-10567). The illustration below shows the locations and production dates to assist with the repair.
