TITLE 3E ENGINE DRIVEABILITY (Revised - Discard all previous versions)
This TSB will provide the information necessary to correct the following driveability conditions that may be experienced on 1987 and early production 1988 Tercels.
1. Engine Run-On
2. Engine Surge/Flat Spot
The following production changes have been made to eliminate conditions 1 and 2 and improve driveability.
CONDITION PRODUCTION CHANGE
1. Engine Run-On ^ Throttle closing system added to the carburetor assembly.
2. Surge/Flat Spot ^ Carburetor metering needle design changed.
^ Cold mixture heater temperature switch operating range extended from 122~F (50~C) to 131~F (55~C).
FIELD FIX INFORMATION:
To correct engine run-on and/or surge/flat spot conditions on 1987 and early 1988 production vehicles, install the necessary components according to production date and frame number information as shown in the following charts.
^ Chart 1: Components needed by production range/model.
^ Chart 2: Part number information.
CHART 1: COMPONENTS REQUIRED

INTERCHANGEABILITY
New part numbers are interchangeable with previous part numbers when all required components as listed in chart 1 and 2 are installed.
NOTE:
- Check all carburetor adjustments and reset to specifications as needed.
- Manual transmission and automatic transmission carburetors have different enrichment calibration and are not interchangeable.
