Compressor Clutch: Service and Repair
Magnetic Clutch, Exploded View:
CLUTCH DISASSEMBLY
Shaft Nut Removal:
1. Using the SST(07110-77011) and a socket, remove the shaft nut.
Pressure Plate Removal:
2. Using the SST(07112-71010) and a socket, remove the pressure plate.
Shim Removal:
3. Remove the shims from the shaft.
Snap Ring Removal:
4. Using the SST(07114-84020), remove the snap ring.
Removing Rotor From Shaft:
5. Using a plastic hammer, tap the rotor off the shaft.
CAUTION: Be careful not to damage the pulley when tapping on the rotor.
Disconnecting Lead Wires:
6. Disconnect the stator lead wires from the compressor housing.
Snap Ring Removal:
7. Using the SST(07114-84020), remove the snap ring and the stator.
Rotor Assembly:
8. Remove the bearing snap ring from the rotor.
9. Using the SST(07110-77011), press out the two bearings.
NOTE: Press out the bearings only if they are to be replaced.
10. Inspect the pressure plate and rotor surfaces for scoring. Replace if necessary.
11. Check the rotor bearings for wear or leakage of grease. Replace if necessary.
CLUTCH REASSEMBLY
Pulley And Bearings With Special Tools Installed:
1. Using the SST(07110-77011), press a shield ring and two new bearings into the rotor boss until fully seated.
2. Install the bearing snap ring into the rotor groove.
Snap Ring And Tool:
3. Install the stator on the compressor.
4. Using the SST(07114-84020), install the new snap ring.
5. Connect the stator lead wires to the compressor housing.
Snap Ring And Tool:
6. Install the rotor on the compressor shaft.
7. Using the SST(07114-84020), install the new snap ring.
Shim Adjustment:
8. Adjust the clearance between the pressure plate and rotor by adding or removing shims on the compressor shaft.
Standard clearance: 0.4-0.7 mm (0.016 - 0.028 in.)
Torquing Shaft Nut:
9. Using the SST(07110-77011) and a torque wrench, install the shaft nut.
Torque: 165 kg-cm (12 ft-lb, 16 Nm)
