Removal and Installation
1. Disconnect intermediate steering shaft, then remove cotter pin and nut from tie rod ends.
2. Disconnect tie rod ends using suitable puller, then remove suspension under cover (if equipped).
3. Remove rack housing bracket retaining bolts and rack housing brackets using caution not to damage rubber boots.
4. Remove steering assembly from vehicle.
5. Reverse procedure to install.
1. Raise and support vehicle. If equipped with power steering, disconnect pressure and return lines from gear housing and remove union seats.
2. Remove two sliding yoke mounting bolts.
3. Pull sliding yoke first from gear housing, then from mainshaft.
4. Remove cotter pins and nuts, then using tool 09610-20012 or equivalent, disconnect tie rod end.
5. Remove four attaching bolts and two gear housing brackets, then the gear housing assembly and two bushings, being careful not to damage rack boots.
6. Reverse procedure to install. Torque gear housing attaching bolts and the tie rod to steering knuckle castle nuts to 43 ft. lbs.
