1. Check clutch pedal height, refer to Fig. 3.
2. Clutch pedal height on Camry models should be as follows:
a. 1984-85, 7.5-7.9 inches.
b. 1986, 7.99-8.39 inches.
c. 1987-88, 7.52-7.91 inches.
3. Clutch pedal height on Celica and Supra models should be as follows:
a. 1984-Early 1986 Supra and 1982-85 Celica, 6.06-6.46 inches.
b. 1986-88 Celica, 6.02-6.42 inches.
c. Late 1986-88 Supra, 6.18-6.57 inches.
4. Clutch pedal height on Corolla should be as follows:
a. 1984 & 1986-88 FWD, 5.83-6.22 inches.
b. 1984 RWD & 1985 FWD, 5.65-6.04 inches.
d. 1985 RWD, 6.34-6.73 inches.
e. 1986-88 RWD, 6.44-6.83 inches.
5. Clutch pedal height on Cressida models should be as follows:
a. 6.1-6.5 inches.
6. Clutch pedal height on 1987-88 Tercel sedan models should be as follows:
a. On models equipped with clutch pedal assemblies EL31L-ZGKRSA and EL31L-ZGKBSK, clutch pedal height should be 6.38-6.77 inches as measured from dash panel.
b. On models less clutch pedal assemblies EL31L-ZGKRSA and EL31L-ZGKBSK, clutch pedal height should be 6.14-6.54 inches as measured from floor, Fig. 3.
7. If clutch pedal height is not as specified, loosen locknut and turn adjusting bolt until specified clutch pedal height is obtained, then tighten adjusting bolt locknut.
8. Check clutch freeplay. Clutch pedal freeplay on Camry models should be as follows:
a. .20-.59 inches. Pushrod play at top of pedal should be .039-.197 inches.
9. Clutch freeplay on Celica and Supra models should be as follows:
a. 1984 less turnover clutch, .51-.91 inch.
b. 1984-88 Supra and 1982-86 Celica with turnover clutch, .20-.59 inch. Pushrod play at top of pedal should be, .039-.197 inch.
10. Clutch free play on Corolla models should be as follows:
a. 1984-85 RWD, 1982-85 FWD gasoline engine and models RWD w/4A-C engine, .51-.91 inch.
b. 1984 FWD models w/diesel engine and RWD w/4A-GE engine, .20-.59 inch. Pushrod play at top of pedal should be .039-.197 inch.
c. 1986 FWD models, .28-.67 inch.
d. 1987-88 FWD models. .20-.59 inch. Pushrod play at top of pedal should be .039-.197 inch.
11. Clutch freeplay on Cressida models should be as follows:
a. .20-.59 inch. Pushrod play at top of pedal should be .039-.197 inch.
12. Clutch freeplay on Tercel Wagon models should be as follows:
a. 1987, .20-.59 inch. Pushrod play at top of pedal should be .039-.197 inches. 1988, .08-1.10 inch.
13. If clutch pedal freeplay is not as specified, loosen locknut and turn pushrod adjusting screw until specified pedal freeplay is obtained, Fig. 3.
14. Tighten locknut, then recheck clutch pedal height.
