Automatic Transmission/Transaxle: Service and Repair


1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove air cleaner, then disconnect neutral safety switch.
3. On except A130L and A131L models, disconnect solenoid valve connector.
4. On all models, disconnect speedometer cable, then remove throttle cable.
5. Remove clip, retainer, then the control cable bracket.
6. Disconnect coolant lines, then the engine coolant inlet line.
7. Raise and support vehicle, then drain transaxle fluid.
8. Remove engine under cover, then the two dust covers from crossmember.
9. Remove 4 attaching bolts, then the front and rear mounting.
10. Remove 4 attaching bolts, then the center member.
11. Remove driveshaft, then the steering knuckle.
12. Remove starter motor attaching bolts, then the starter motor.
13. Remove engine rear end plate attaching bolts, then the engine rear end plate.
14. Remove torque converter retaining bolts as follows:
a. Rotate crankshaft to gain access to each bolt.
b. Retain crankshaft pulley nut, using a suitable tool.
c. Remove 6 attaching bolts.
15. Place suitable jacks under engine and transaxle assembly, then remove retaining bolts.
16. Install a suitable guide pin into one torque converter bolt hole, then pry on end of guide pin to separate transaxle from engine.
17. Separate transaxle from engine assembly, then remove converter from transaxle.
