A/T - Input Shaft Oil Seal

Subject: When the above mentioned transmissions are repaired for stator shaft bushing wear, the groove for the oil seal on the input shaft should be checked for deformation.

Replace the input shaft if the WIDTH of the oil seal groove is less than 2.35 mm (.0925).

INPUT SHAFT:

This inspection and measurement is important. If the input shaft support bushing wears to the point that the shaft is allowed to wobble in its bore in the stator shaft, the corners of the seal grooves bend over, actually reducing the width of the grooves.
Installation of a new oil seal in a deformed groove may not rectify the problem and, in fact, lead to a secondary problem.
