1. Connect suitable tachometer to engine following manufacturer's instructions.
2. Ensure that air cleaner is properly installed, start engine and run until it reaches normal operating temperature.
3. Disconnect accelerator linkage from lever on injection pump, rotate lever until it contacts stop screw on pump and observe maximum engine speed.
4. If maximum speed is not within specifications, loosen locknut on maximum speed stop screw and adjust screw as needed, Fig. 5. On 2L and 2L-T engines, loosen locknut with tool 09275-5420 or equivalent, Fig. 6. On all engines, perform adjustment with engine running at idle, then recheck speed as in step 3.
5. Tighten locknut on maximum speed stop screw and ensure that maximum speed is still within specifications.
6. Stop engine and reconnect accelerator linkage to lever.
7. Fully depress accelerator pedal while observing pump lever.
8. If lever does not contact maximum speed stop screw with accelerator fully depressed, adjust stop bolt under accelerator pedal.
9. Release accelerator pedal and adjust linkage to remove excess slack from accelerator cable.
10. Start engine and ensure that idle speed and maximum speed are still within specifications.
