DISASSEMBLY
1. REMOVE DRAIN PLUG AND GASKET, AND DRAIN ATF
2. REMOVE 2 WIRE HARNESS BRACKETS
3. 5VZ-FE:
REMOVE WIRE HARNESS CLAMP MOULTING BOLT AND BREATHER PIPE
4. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CONTROL SHAFT LEVER
Remove the nut, washer and control shaft lever.
5. REMOVE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH
a. Using a screwdriver, unstake the lock washer.
b. Remove the nut, lock washer and grommet.
c. Remove the bolt and park/neutral position switch.
6. 2UZ-FE:
REMOVE ATF TEMPERATURE SENSOR
a. Remove the ATF temperature sensor.
b. Remove the O-ring from the sensor.
7. REMOVE ELBOW
a. Remove the 2 elbows.
b. Remove the O-rings from each elbow.
8. 5VZ-FE:
REMOVE ATF TEMPERATURE SENSOR
a. Remove the ATF temperature sensor.
b. Remove the O-ring from the sensor.
9. REMOVE No.1 VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR
a. Remove the bolt and No.1 vehicle speed sensor.
b. Remove the O-ring from it.
10. REMOVE No.2 VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR
a. Remove the bolt and No.2 vehicle speed sensor.
b. Remove the O-ring from it.
11. 2UZ-FE:
REMOVE O/D DIRECT CLUTCH SPEED SENSOR
a. Remove the bolt and O/D direct clutch speed sensor.
b. Remove the O-ring from it.
12. REMOVE TRANSMISSION HOUSING
a. Remove the 6 bolts.
b. Remove the transmission housing.
13. INSTALL TRANSMISSION CASE ON OVERHAUL ATTACHMENT
Install the transmission case on the overhaul attachment.
14. REMOVE EXTENSION HOUSING
a. Remove the 6 bolts.
b. Remove the extension housing and gasket.
15. REMOVE SPEEDOMETER DRIVE GEAR
a. Using snap ring pliers, remove the snap ring.
b. 5VZ-FE:
Remove the speedometer drive gear and ball.
c. 2UZ-FE:
Remove the speedometer drive gear.
16. REMOVE SENSOR ROTOR AND KEY
a. Remove the sensor rotor and key.
b. Using snap ring pliers, remove the snap ring.
17. REMOVE OIL PAN
NOTICE: Do not turn the transmission over as this will contaminate the valve body with any foreign matter at the bottom of the pan.
a. Remove the 19 bolts.
b. Install the blade of SST between the transmission case and oil pan, and cut off the applied sealer.
SST 09032-00100
NOTICE: Be careful not to damage the oil and flange.
c. Remove the pan by lifting the transmission case.
18. EXAMINE PARTICLES IN PAN
Remove the magnets and use them to collect steel particles. Carefully look at the foreign matter and particles in the pan and on the magnets to anticipate the type of wear you will find in the transmission.
Steel (magnetic): bearing, gear and clutch plate wear
Brass (non-magnetic): bushing wear
19. REMOVE OIL STRAINER AND GASKET
a. Remove the 4 bolts holding the oil strainer to the valve body.
b. 5VZ-FE:
Remove the oil strainer and 2 gaskets.
c. 2UZ-FE:
Remove the oil strainer and 5 gaskets.
20. REMOVE OIL PIPE
Using a large screwdriver, pry up both pipe ends and remove the 2 oil pipes.
21. REMOVE SOLENOID WIRING
a. 5VZ-FE:
Disconnect the 3 connectors from the shift solenoid valves.
b. 2UZ-FE:
Disconnect the 4 connectors from each shift solenoid valve.
c. Remove the bolt and stopper plate from the case.
d. Pull out the solenoid wiring from the transmission case.
e. Remove the O-rings from the solenoid wiring.
22. REMOVE VALVE BODY
a. 5VZ-FE:
Remove the 17 bolts.
b. 2UZ-FE:
Remove the 17 bolts and valve body.
c. 5VZ-FE:
Disconnect the throttle cable from the cam and remove the valve body.
23. REMOVE CHECK BALL BODY, ACCUMULATOR SPRING AND PISTON
a. Remove the check ball body and spring.
b. Remove the 2 springs from the C(0) accumulator piston.
c. Applying compressed air (392 kPa, 4.0 kgf/cm2, 57 psi) to the oil hole, remove the B2 and C2 accumulator pistons and springs.
NOTICE:
- Blowing of the air may cause the piston to jump-out. When removing the piston, hold it with your hand using a waste cloth.
- Take care not to splash ATF when air-blowing.
d. Remove the 4 O-rings from the B2 and C2 accumulator pistons.
e. Applying compressed air (392 kPa, 4.0 kgf/cm2, 57 psi) to the oil hole, remove the B(0) accumulator piston and spring.
NOTICE:
- Blowing of the air may cause the piston to jump-out. When removing the piston, hold It with your hand using a waste cloth.
- Take care not to splash ATF when air-blowing.
f. Remove the 2 O-rings from the B(0) accumulator piston.
g. Applying compressed air (392 kPa, 4.0 kgf/cm2, 57 psi) to the oil hole, remove the C(0) accumulator piston.
NOTICE:
- Blowing of the air may cause the piston to jump-out. When removing the piston, hold it with your hand using a waste cloth.
- Take care not to splash ATF when air-blowing.
24. 5VZ-FE:
REMOVE THROTTLE CABLE
a. Remove the retaining bolt and pull out the throttle cable.
b. Remove the O-ring from the cable.
