WORK PROCEDURE





1. DISCONNECT THE NEGATIVE (-) BATTERY TERMINAL

(a) Record radio station presets.

(b) Turn the ignition key to the "LOCK" position.

(c) Disconnect negative (-) battery terminal.





2. REMOVE THE TAILLIGHTS

(a) Lower the tailgate and protect it with a blanket.

(b) Remove the two taillight assembly mounting bolts.

(c) Using a nylon pry tool, carefully disengage the taillight from the outer mounting clips.

(d) Remove the three bulb sockets from the taillight assembly.

(e) Place taillight assembly on blanket.

(f) Remove the bulbs from their sockets and set aside. They will be reused with the new taillight harness assembly.

(g) Repeat on opposite side.

NOTE:
Taillight bulbs should be reused.

3. REPLACE THE TAILLIGHT HARNESS ASSEMBLIES

NOTE:
If the vehicle is equipped with a Toyota Trailer Towing Wire Harness Converter, see step 4 for removal of the left taillight harness assembly.

(a) Unclip the taillight harness assembly from the body and disengage the connector from the vehicle harness.

(b) Remove the taillight harness assembly from the vehicle.

(c) Install the improved taillight harness assembly, clip it to the body, and engage the connector to the vehicle harness.





NOTE:
The second socket of the improved taillight harness assembly will have identification marks (dots) on each side of the arrow. (See Diagram Above)

(d) Reinstall the taillight bulbs.

(e) Install the bulb sockets into the taillight assembly and reinstall the taillight.

(f) Repeat on the opposite side.

4. VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A TOYOTA TRAILER TOWING WIRE HARNESS CONVERTER

NOTE:
If the vehicle is equipped with a Toyota Trailer Towing Wire Harness Converter. Use a Converter Harness Repair Kit P/N PT413-34000-FF.





(a) Remove the splashguard from the bottom of the LH taillight cavity.

(b) Unclip the taillight harness assembly from the body, and disengage the connector from the vehicle harness.

(c) Remove any wire ties or foam tape holding the trailer-towing wire harness to the taillight harness assembly as required.

(d) Remove the taillight harness assembly from the vehicle.

(e) Install the new taillight harness assembly, clip it to the body, and engage the connector to the vehicle harness.

(f) Replace wire ties and foam tape as required.

(g) Reinstall the splashguard using new adhesive tape. (provided in kit)

(h) Reinstall the taillight bulbs.

NOTE:
Taillight bulbs should be reused.

(i) Install the bulb sockets into taillight assembly and reinstall the taillight.

5. CHECK REAR TAILLIGHT OPERATION

(a) Reconnect battery.

(b) Check operation of the following:

^ Rear turn signals

^ Reverse lights

^ Stop lights

^ Taillights

6. REPROGRAM THE RADIO PRESETS AND RESET THE CLOCK

SSC COMPLETION LABEL INSTALLATION





a) After completing repair and before returning the vehicle to the owner, a SSC completion label, that is enclosed in the owner's notification must be affixed to the left front door hinge post, near the check strap

b) The label is to be filled out as follows:

^ Write in SSC Y01

^ Write in date of repair.

Write in your dealer code.

c) Additional SSC completion labels, in sheets of 50 (P/N 00410-01917), may be ordered through the non-parts system on a 1450 order form or through the TDN system.
