Front Disc Brake Pad Removal and Installation

Front Disc Brake Pad On-Vehicle Inspection

NOTE:

Failure to take proper precautions during brake pad removal may cause damage to the brake flexible hose and/or the brake piston.

- Be careful not to damage the brake flexible hose during brake pad removal.
- Avoid depressing the brake pedal during the brake pad removal procedure to prevent the brake piston from being forced out of the cylinder.

NOTE:

When replacing brake pad, replace it both side brake caliper as the set.

Removal

1) Hoist vehicle and remove front wheel.
2) Remove caliper pin bolts (1).





3) Remove caliper (1) from caliper carrier (2).

NOTE:
If the removed brake caliper (1) is left hung by the brake hose, the brake hose may be damaged due to the tension caused by the caliper's weight.

Hang a removed brake caliper with a wire hook (4) or the like to relieve the brake hose of the tension.

4) Remove brake pads (3).





5) Remove brake pad spring (1) as show in figure.






Installation

Front Disc Brake Pad Inspection

Front Disc Brake Caliper Check
1) Apply small amount of pad grease "a" (included in spare parts) to pad spring and set brake pad spring as shown in figure.





2) Set brake pad springs (1), and install brake pads (2), shims (4) and shim cover (5).

NOTE:
Install the brake pad with wear indicator (3) to the vehicle center side of front right brake pad.





3) Install caliper and tighten caliper pin bolts to specified torque.

Tightening torque
Caliper pin bolt (a): 26 Nm (2.6 kgf-m, 19.0 lbf-ft)





4) Install front wheel referring to Removal and Replacement Wheel (with Tire) Removal and Installation.
5) Check brake effectiveness.
