1. Was "Engine and Emission Control System Check" performed?
YES
Go to Step 2.
NO
Go to Engine and Emission Control System Check Engine and Emission Control System Check.
2. Ignition spark test 1
Perform ignition spark test. Ignition Spark Test
Is test result satisfactory?
YES
Go to Step 3.
NO
Go to Step 4.
3. Ignition timing check
Check ignition timing. Testing and Inspection
Is check result satisfactory?
YES
Ignition system is in good condition.
NO
Repair or replace malfunctioning part.
4. Confirmation of cylinders with malfunction detected
Confirm whether there are any cylinders with a malfunction detected in ignition spark test.
Are there malfunctions in any cylinders?
YES
Go to Step 8.
NO
Go to Step 5.
5. Ignition spark test 2
Replace spark plug in cylinder with malfunction detected with spark plug of normal cylinder.
Perform ignition spark test on spark plug newly installed in cylinder with malfunction detected. Ignition Spark Test
Is test result satisfactory?
YES
Replace spark plug in malfunction-detected cylinder. Spark Plug Removal and Installation
NO
Go to Step 6.
6. Ignition spark test 3
Replace ignition coil assembly in cylinder with malfunction detected with ignition coil assembly of normal cylinder.
Perform ignition spark test on spark plug in cylinder with malfunction detected. Ignition Spark Test
Is test result satisfactory?
YES
Replace ignition coil assembly in cylinder with malfunction detected. Ignition Coil Assembly Removal and Installation
NO
Go to Step 7.
7. Ignition coil assembly drive circuit check
Check drive circuits (B1, B2, B3 and B4) of each ignition coil assembly for open, short and poor connection. Ignition System Circuit Diagram
Are circuits in good condition?
YES
Go to Step 8.
NO
Repair malfunctioning part.
8. Ignition coil assembly power supply and ground circuit check
Check power supply (A1, A2, A3 and A4) and ground (C1, C2, C3 and C4) circuits of each ignition coil assembly for open, short and poor connection. Ignition System Circuit Diagram
Are circuits in good condition?
YES
Replace ECM and recheck DTC. Service and Repair
NO
Repair malfunctioning part.
