Exhaust Manifold: Service and Repair

EXHAUST MANIFOLD

WARNING: To avoid danger of being burned, do not service exhaust system while it is still hot. Service should be performed after system cools down.





REMOVAL
1. Disconnect negative cable at battery.





2. Remove exhaust pipe rear stiffener bolt and exhaust pipe front stiffener.





3. Disconnect heated oxygen sensor coupler and release its clamps.
4. Remove exhaust manifold cover.





5. Remove exhaust No.1 pipe mounting nuts (3 pcs.).
6. Remove exhaust manifold and its gasket from cylinder head.
7. Remove exhaust No.1 pipe gasket from exhaust No.1 pipe.

INSTALLATION
1. Install new gaskets to cylinder head and exhaust No.1 pipe.





2. Install exhaust manifold.
Tighten manifold bolts and nuts and exhaust No.1 pipe mounting nuts to specified torque.
(a): 23 Nm (2.3 kg-m, 17.0 ft. lbs.)
(b): 50 Nm (5.0 kg-m, 36.5 ft. lbs.)
3. Install exhaust manifold cover.





4. Connect heated oxygen sensor coupler and clamp its wire securely.





5. Install exhaust No.1 pipe to exhaust pipe rear stiffener, and install exhaust pipe front stiffener.
6. Connect negative cable at battery.
7. Check exhaust system for exhaust gas leakage.
