Recall - Rear Axle (SD)
NUMBER: SC-07SUBJECT:
Special Service Campaign No. SD
Rear Axle Housing
1993 and 1994
2-Door Suzuki Sidekick
American Suzuki Motor Corporation has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety may exist in certain 1993-1994 2-Door Suzuki Sidekick vehicles.
Some rear axle housing assemblies in affected vehicles may have been manufactured incorrectly, which could allow a welding fracture at the axle shaft housing tube to the differential case. Fracture of the axle shaft housing could result in loss of rear braking and affect vehicle control, and could cause a vehicle crash without prior warning.
To preclude the possibility of this occurring, ASMC is requesting all Suzuki dealers to inspect affected vehicles. If it is determined that the rear axle housing was manufactured incorrectly, contact your Suzuki District Service and Parts Manager (DSPM). Arrangements will be made to replace the rear axle housing as an assembly and alternate transportation will be provided to the vehicle owner if necessary.
1. Affected Vehicles
1993 2-Door Sidekick built in Canada with VTN 2S3T_0_C_P6400141 and over.

2. Owner Notification

3. Dealer Special Service Campaign Responsibility
Your dealership is to inspect all affected vehicles using the special gauge provided by ASMC. If it is determined that the rear axle housing was manufactured incorrectly, ask the owner of the vehicle if alternate transportation is necessary and immediately contact your Suzuki DSPM to arrange for express shipment of the rear axle housing assembly. If you have a difficulty contacting your DSPM contact the Warranty Helpline at (800) 568-9968 for assistance.
This Special Service Campaign shall be conducted at no charge to the customer regardless of vehicle age, mileage, and date of visit.
All affected in-dealer-stock inventory vehicles subject to this Special Service Campaign must receive the inspection and, if necessary, the Rear Axle Housing assembly must be replaced before you sell or lease the vehicle.
If an affected vehicle is currently in your Service Department or is brought in for other service any time in the future, use this opportunity to perform this Special Service Campaign. Be certain to inform the customer of completion.
This Special Service Campaign may have been previously performed. Refer to Technical Service Bulletin TS 3-23 04294 (Alldata # TS323 04/29/94) for component identification and installation instructions.
NOTE:
No owner follow-up lists will be provided to Suzuki dealers.
