Judgment Standards for Water Pump Replacement

INTRODUCTION

The purpose of this bulletin is to help clarify when a water pump replacement is necessary based only on its exterior appearance.

SERVICE PROCEDURE / INFORMATION





It is not necessary to replace the water pump if the only symptom is evidence of coolant visible on its exterior unless droplets continue to form after the engine is up to operating temperature. In addition, if the amount of residue in the area of the weep hole from prior coolant seepage is similar to or less than what is shown in the photo below, it is to be considered normal and is not an indicator on its own that pump replacement is necessary.
