Electric Parking Brake Switch: Testing and Inspection
Emergency Release of Electronic Parking BrakeOPERATION
CAUTION:
^ Perform this operation only when the parking brake must be released in emergency situation such as a system malfunction.
^ When doing this operation at the slope, the vehicle may move and the unintentional accident may happen. Before operation, be sure to confirm the safety condition of vehicle surrounding.
1) Shift the select lever to "P" range (AT or CVT model), or "1st" or "R" (MT model).
2) Stop the engine.
3) Set the wheel stoppers to tires.
4) Take out the electronic parking brake release tool from the vehicle service tools.
5) Insert the release tool to the parking brake actuator cap, and remove the cap by turning the counterclockwise.
6) Insert the release tool into the parking brake actuator by breaking through the film, and turn clockwise 200 to 250 times.
7) Install the cap which was removed in step 5).
Tightening torque:
3 Nm (0.3 kgf-m, 2.2 ft-lb)
8) When the emergency release of electronic parking brake was performed, be sure to perform the inspection of the Emergency Release of Electronic Parking Brake, regardless of the vehicle drive/no-drive.
INSPECTION
When the emergency release of electronic parking brake was performed, check the following items, regardless of the vehicle drive/no-drive.
^ Parking brake actuator operates or not, when parking brake switch is operated.
NOTE:
When returning from the emergency release condition, operation time takes for 10-odd seconds because the actuator strokes fully.
^ Brake warning light illuminates or not, when parking brake is operated.
^ Noise occurs or not, when parking brake is operated.
^ Visual inspection of parking brake shoe.
^ Drag occurs or not, when parking brake is released.
