Body - Liftgate Garnish Moulding Broken

Rear Gate Garnish Molding

INTRODUCTION
If you encounter a customer complaint that the rear gate garnish molding is broken, the molding is now available separate from the rear gate garnish assembly. For replacement, refer to the repair procedure listed.

COUNTERMEASURE IN PRODUCTION

To strengthen the molding, double face adhesive tape was added starting in February, 2010.





PART INFORMATION

MATERIAL NEEDED

Isopropyl rubbing alcohol or equivalent

REPAIR PROCEDURE/INFORMATION





1) Remove the rear gate garnish assembly from the rear gate (refer to the applicable Subaru Service Manual).

2) Remove the molding from the garnish.





A) Remove the 5 tapping screws from the backside of the garnish.

B) Using isopropyl rubbing alcohol (or equivalent), clean the surface of the garnish where the double faced adhesive tape on the new molding will come in contact.

C) Remove the adhesive tape backing and carefully place the molding into place on the garnish. Apply adequate pressure in the area of the tape for proper adhesion.

D) Reinstall tapping screws.

3) Reinstall rear gate garnish assembly in reverse order of removal.

For vehicles within the basic New Car Limited Warranty period, this repair can be claimed using the table.
