Interior - Driver's Seat Lumbar Support Inoperative

SUBJECT: DRIVER'S SEAT LUMBAR SUPPORT
Introduction
If you encounter a customer complaint that the lumbar support is not functioning when operating the switch, there is the possibility that the hook that attaches the cable is broken. To remedy the condition, the hook will need to be replaced. Refer to the repair procedure listed below.
Countermeasure in Production
The countermeasure hook was used in production starting in January, 2010 with the VINs shown above.

Repair Procedure / information
1) Press the lumbar support control switch to decrease the lumbar support as much as possible.
2) Move the driver's seat to the full upright position and tilt the seat back forward as far as possible.
3) Remove the rear seat back cover.
a) Remove the elastic from the s-springs under the seat bottom.
b) Remove the two screws securing the lower seat back cover and remove the seat back cover by first pulling backward on the lower sides of the cover (A) and then by pulling down.
4) Locate the hooks on the inner and outer sides of the seat back and carefully remove the protective tape as it will be re-used.
5) Remove the hooks while observing proper positioning of the hook on both the cable side and the frame side.
6) Install the new hooks with the larger hook opening on the lumbar cable and with the hook opening facing toward the seat back cover.
7) Re-install the protective tape on the hooks.
8) Re-install the seat back cover and install lower securing screws and elastic band.
9) Confirm proper operation of lumbar support system.
