Engine - Turbo Oil Leaks/White Exhaust Smoke

SUBJECT: TURBOCHARGER AND UNION SCREW MODIFICATION
INTRODUCTION
If you encounter a vehicle that has slight oil seepage from the turbocharger housings joints and possibly a small amount of white smoke emitted from the tailpipe, it could be caused by excessive oil pressure to the turbocharger. A modification was made to the turbocharger inner oil circuit and the scavenger pump union screw.
COUNTERMEASURE IN PRODUCTION
The modified turbocharger was used in production starting with VIN number A*223854.
The modified union screw was used in production starting with VIN number B*213352.
PARTS INFORMATION
REPAIR PROCEDURE/INFORMATION
For vehicles from start of production to A*223853, the turbocharger, union screw and washers need to be replaced to correct the condition.
For vehicles within VIN range A*223854 to B*213351 just the union screw and washer need to be replaced to correct the condition.
Vehicles starting with VIN B*213352 have the modified turbocharger and union screw.
The scavenger pump union screw is located on the back side of the right bank cylinder head.
Refer to the applicable service manual for turbocharger and union screw replacement.
NOTE:
If there is any residual oil that seeped from the old turbocharger housing joints onto other components, an engine degreaser should be used for cleaning.
