Instruments - Elapsed Time/Journey Time Not Displayed

NUMBER: 08-37-06

DATE: 05/09/06

APPLICABILITY:
2006MY Legacy and Outback
(Excluding vehicles equipped with Navigation System)

SUBJECT:
"-:- -" Indicated in Elapsed Time Display

INTRODUCTION

Some 2006MY Legacy/Outback vehicles equipped with Information Display may fail to register Elapsed Time (E/T) or Journey Time when the vehicle is started. This bulletin is to inform of the correct repair procedure for this condition.

The Information Display on Legacy / Outback indicates as "E/T 0:00" upon engine start up when E/T is selected, then accumulates journey time accordingly. However, there are some cases that the Information Display fails to indicate the correct Elapsed Time and rather indicates as - : - In this case, the vehicle does not accumulate the journey time. This symptom is caused by a failure of the Information Display to recognize Engine start up as IG Key position moved from IG-ON to START (i.e., ACC-OFF). The change is in the Information Display logic to enable recognition of engine start up to begin accumulating the journey time regardless of IG Key position.

PRODUCTION LINE CHANGE

The auto clock assembly was modified in production beginning with the VINs shown.
